About this trail
The Appalachian Trail crosses about 150 miles of southern and eastern Vermont. From the Massachusetts line it shares the footpath with the Long Trail for roughly 105 miles along the Green Mountains, then the two split at Maine Junction, just north of Route 4 near Sherburne Pass. From there the AT turns east for its last 45 or so miles in Vermont, over more moderate terrain, to the Connecticut River.
Good to know
- Southern Vermont sections close for mud season along with the Long Trail.
- The shared AT and Long Trail sections are white-blazed; side trails are blue.

Walking distances follow the mapped trail network. They are not a route, they ignore slope, and they are not driving directions.
OpenStreetMap grades the footing here as: mostly marked; some steep or uneven ground. That describes the ground, not how hard the hike is.
Climb are estimates worked out from the mapped line and USGS elevation data, not measurements or official ratings. This trail has several separate pieces, so the climb is an average of the two directions.
