About this trail
Deer Leap is a short but rugged hike from Sherburne Pass on Route 4 to a rock lookout over the pass and the Coolidge Range around Killington. The route starts on the north side of Route 4 at the east end of the Inn at Long Trail lot, climbs a rocky 0.5 mile to the Appalachian Trail, follows it briefly, then takes the Deer Leap Trail 0.4 mile to the 0.2-mile Overlook Spur. The Green Mountain Club describes a 3.5-mile loop with about 1,200 feet of climbing that continues on the Deer Leap Trail and returns by the Appalachian Trail.
Good to know
- The trailhead is on a busy blind hill on Route 4. Park across the road and cross with great care.
- The first section is very rocky.
