About this trail
Haystack Mountain rises above Wilmington and Harriman Reservoir in the Green Mountain National Forest. The trail starts in the Chimney Hill development (Haystack Road, then Chimney Hill Road), follows a gated road on a steady climb to the Binney Brook ravine, then climbs steeply to the mountain's southern ridge, reaching the summit spur at 1.7 miles by the Forest Service's figures. From the rock outcrop near the top you can see Mount Snow to the north, the reservoir to the south and, on a clear day, Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire.
