About this trail
The Burrows Trail is a popular route up Camel's Hump from the west, used by thousands of hikers a year. It starts at the year-round lot at the end of Camel's Hump Road in Huntington. The state's trail guide gives it as 2.1 miles, rated moderately difficult, ending at Hut Clearing where it meets the Long Trail; the summit is another 0.3 mile to the right. The forest walk has few views until the top, and the steepest pitches come near the end. A popular 5.8-mile loop goes up via the Forest City Trail and the Long Trail and comes back down Burrows.
Good to know
- Thousands of hikers use it each year, so expect company and arrive early on summer weekends.
- The summit is exposed and its weather can be much worse than at the trailhead; turn back if it turns.
- Camping on Camel's Hump is only allowed at the designated shelters, lodges and tent areas.
